In 1992 Steve began training in Wu Dang Tai Chi Chuan, originally with Brian Badham, Who is one of Dan Docherty’s senior students. He quickly became totally engrossed by the ethics and theory behind the style and worked hard to improve his skills. Training became a way of life, with a lot of his time and energy devoted to Tai Chi.
In 1995 he moved on to become one of Dan’s students. With encouragement he started to teach in 1997, specialising in one-to-one lessons and some private classes. He now covers at Tokei (Dan’s London Bridge class) when Dan is away at his International Training Camps.
Steve attends class every Wednesday at Tokei, where he is the First Aider, he also goes to the Sunday workshops, also at Tokei, and attends three of Dan’s Training camps each year.
He entered his first British Open competition in 1994 and won the Bronze medal in beginners hand form. Winning consistently ever since, he now has 22 British Open medals overall including 8 gold, with a high point in 2005 where he became Grand Weapons Champion, winning gold medals in Sword, Sabre and Spear all at expert level, and has two gold medals for Fixed Step pushing hands in two different weight categories. He is still competing, latest result being gold medals for Sabre and Spear.
He has taught both Simon and Kathy.

Steve enjoys passing on his knowledge to all his students, but still feels he has much to learn, and will never personally reach the very high standard he always sets for himself.
